Brooke Singer is a Wellington based songwriter, composer, piano teacher and freelance publicist. She gained a BMus in Composition from Canterbury University in 2010 and is currently completing a PGrad Dip focussing on Public Relations through Massey.
She plays in the the dream-folk duo “French for Rabbits” with John Fitzgerald with whom she released the EP ‘Claimed by the Sea’ to high praise on international blogs in March 2012. By day she teaches piano and works as a freelance publicist, and in her spare time she runs “The Song Collective” website which showcases videoed performances of bands and songwriters in interesting/beautiful locations (ballrooms, by the sea, on a wharf, in a lounge).
In the past she performed in the popular new-folk duo “Ragamuffin Children”. This is a place to keep track of the projects she is involved in (all in one concise place!).
HERE IS WHERE I HUSTLE: PLEASE HIRE ME FOR PUBLICITY WORK, PIANO TEACHING, OR LICENSE SOME OF MY MUSIC FOR YOUR FILM. IT’S VERY NICE AND DREAMY.
Previous releases include ‘Werecat Lullabies’ and Creative NZ funded ‘The Seahorse Emporium’ with ethereal folk group ‘Ragamuffin Children’ and a self titled album with indie pop group ‘The O’Lovely’s. The are now called O’Lovely, check them out here. LOOP recordings also released ‘Ragamuffin Children’ track ‘More of Me’. I have toured New Zealand a number of times, and have also performed in the UK and Europe which was quite lovely.
’songwriter and pianist Brooke lulls you undersea to a world you’d forgotten about…’ Cheese on toast
‘Brooke Singer is surely one of the country’s finest young songwriters, showing a flair for elegant melodies and an interesting way with words. While whimsical in many senses, it would be unfair to say that is all to the lyrics, as metaphors abound in many of the songs, not to mention sincere emotion.‘-Amanda Mills- NZ musician
